About the Workshops

The Grassroots Growth team is working hard to develop four training workshops to help grassroots groups effectively manage volunteers. You can attend our workshops from A to D to take you from starting your organization through to coordinating a large number of support volunteers, or pick and choose from the topics that are most relevant to you right now. Workshops will cover issues relevant to grassroots groups in Ontario today, including governance structures, volunteer burnout, and volunteer recruitment and retention – all from a grassroots perspective.

As a participant, you can expect to learn from your peers, think critically about and learn how to adapt traditional ways of managing volunteers, and develop a volunteer coordination strategy that works best for you and your grassroots group.

Have Your Say

By attending the pilot workshops, you’ll be able to help shape the structure and content of the training sessions, which will officially launch in September 2016 and run through to March 2017. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to include your voice in our project!

The Logistics of Managing More People

Sometimes grassroots groups grow quickly – whether you’re ready for growth or not! This workshop adapts traditional volunteer management strategies for grassroots groups, and will cover how to get productive feedback from your volunteers, ways to encourage more involved volunteer participation, and suggestions for recognizing and thanking your volunteers. We’ll also consider some of the ways you can stay organized when managing a group of volunteers without a dedicated volunteer coordinator, including a look at some of the tools and technology available, ways to inspire volunteer retention, and what to do when a volunteer isn’t working out in their role.

This workshop is perfect for: Grassroots groups with a sizable number of support volunteers, or groups planning ahead for an increase in volunteer assistance.
