Volunteer Toronto is currently recruiting a Marketing and Communications Manager to join the team. We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic marketing professional to raise our organization’s profile in the community and support the promotion of the organization’s programs and events.

Position Title:    Marketing and Communications Manager

Position Type:   Permanent, full time (35 hours per week)

Reports to:        Director of Community Engagement

Start Date:         March 2017

Salary:               $45,000-$50,000 annually plus benefits

 

 

Volunteer Toronto is a charity that builds caring communities by connecting volunteers to the causes that need them. Being the largest of Canada’s 200 volunteer centres, we strive to be a thought leader in best practices and research regarding volunteer engagement. We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic marketing professional to raise our organization’s profile in the community and support the promotion of the organization’s programs and events.

Summary of Responsibilities

Planning and Evaluation (15%)

·      Develops and implements the annual marketing and communications strategy for the organization, which includes public relations, social media and brand development.

·      Tracks and reports on performance of communications, marketing, and media practices.

·      Manages the annual and day-to-day budget of marketing and communications activities.

 

Public Relations and External Marketing (40%)

·      Cultivates relationships with media to raise visibility of organization.

·      Develops press releases and strategically seeks opportunities for media coverage of the organization’s events and media worthy activities to increase media impressions.

·      Leads and carries out activities relating to the expansion of Volunteer Toronto’s public profile, and initiates activities to increase engagement such as newsletter subscribers, website visitors, etc.

·      Oversees the Volunteers of Toronto photography blog sharing stories of the city’s volunteers.

 

Internal Marketing and Communications Support (30%)

·      Collaborates with internal departments to advise and support promotional strategies to increase awareness of Volunteer Toronto’s programs and events.

·      Manages Volunteer Toronto’s digital presence, including the website, social media accounts, newsletters, and Creates collateral using graphic design software and develops copy for Volunteer Toronto communications and marketing requirements.

 

Management of Staff and Volunteers (15%)

·      Manages the Communications and Administrative Assistant, and volunteers who support the Marketing and Communications function.

 

 

Skills and Experience

Essential:

·      Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a public relations, marketing or communications role

·      Track record of increasing brand presence and media impressions through public relations activities

·      Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail

·      Strong project management skills with ability to multi-task and meet priorities within tight timelines

·      Excellent teamwork, creative thinking, and problem solving skills

·      Demonstrated proficiency in use of software and social media platforms, including Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn

·      Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google AdWords, SEO techniques and keyword optimization

·      Experience managing websites and using HTML and CSS languages

·      Passion for volunteerism and community building

 

Assets:

·      Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, public relations or related fields

·      Experience working or volunteering for a non-profit organization in a marketing and communications capacity

·      Experience managing staff and/or volunteers

·      Knowledge of online efficiency tools, e.g. Hootsuite, Canva, Trello

·      Familiarity with content management systems and website management
