With gratitude and congratulations, Volunteer Toronto’s Board of Directors announce David Allen’s retirement as Executive Director, effective November 30, 2017. Volunteer Toronto has flourished over the past few years under David’s direction. We will greatly miss his commitment, diligence, team building and leadership. But most of all we will miss his constant encouragement to be lifelong learners, trying new things and developing Volunteer Toronto into a stronger organization.

We would like to thank him for his dedicated service, which involved many significant accomplishments, including:

  • Building policies and procedures needed to ensure everyday team and employee success
  • Establishing communication building blocks for more accountability with funders and stakeholders
  • Stabilizing an organizational culture where employees commend the positive environment
  • Empowering staff to create meaningful programming that is grounded and shaped by experience, research, and practice
  • Leading the Volunteer Toronto team through strategic planning, successful grant writing and new, meaningful program development
  • Guiding and supporting our Board with grace, intelligence, and experience
  • Creating a Volunteer Toronto that is a thought leader in our sector
  • And advocating for our community and Toronto’s volunteers

Staff, Board, volunteers, members and partners alike will remember David’s leadership fondly. We wish him all the best as he settles into retirement and hope he enjoys the extra free time to spend with his wife, children and grandchildren, at the cottage—and of course volunteering.

With David’s retirement also comes a new opportunity in leadership for Volunteer Toronto. Starting in September 2017, we’ve begun conducting a search to find the new Executive Director. During this transition period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization.

If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mack Rogers directly at BoardChair@volunteertoronto.ca.
