Effective November 20, 2017, Volunteer Toronto’s Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of current Director of Community Engagement, Camara Chambers, as Executive Director. A prominent community leader, Chambers brings more than 10 years of national and international experience in community engagement, non-profit management and strategy.

“After an extensive hiring process and reviewing over 100 applications, we are confident in our decision to appoint Camara Chambers as Volunteer Toronto’s new Executive Director,” says Mack Rogers, Board Chair of Volunteer Toronto. “Camara’s experience, knowledge of the organization and strategic vision for the future make her the ideal leader to shepherd Volunteer Toronto to the next level. Her skills in innovative partnership development, fundraising, operations and relationship-building will be crucial in furthering our impact.”

Since joining the organization five years ago, Chambers has increased revenue by 40%, expanded the organization’s public engagement to reach 430,000 individuals, and led successful events and programs that have mobilized tens of thousands of Torontonians to volunteer.

Passionate about giving back, she has volunteered with several local youth programs, YWCA Toronto’s Women of Distinction Awards, the Toronto International Film Festival and more. A seasoned board member, she currently serves on a strategic advisory committee for Shape My City, Toronto’s network of city building initiatives. She is recognized as a national leader in the Canadian nonprofit landscape and was recently featured in The Philanthropist’s 150 Profiles.

“I’m thrilled to lead a great organization and honoured to be working with a dedicated and talented team. Toronto’s longstanding spirit of volunteerism is part of what makes the city unique. I look forward to ensuring Volunteer Toronto continues to be recognized as a thought leader and an important connection to meaningful volunteer opportunities.”

A graduate of the University of Liverpool, Chambers holds an LLB law degree. Prior to joining Volunteer Toronto, she led a national inclusivity program for Europe’s largest LGBTQ charity. Chambers is an accomplished community builder, a leader in Canada’s social sector and has a longstanding commitment to volunteerism.

Volunteer Toronto is Canada’s largest volunteer centre with over 40 years of experience connecting volunteers to the organizations that need them. Our services empower local volunteers to find opportunities that make a positive difference in their community.
