The Relative Impact ROI Model for Volunteers
With guest presenter Tony Goodrow, Better Impact
Thursday, January 8, 9:30am-12:30pm
“We don’t brag about spending more money…so why do we brag about spending more of our volunteers’ time?”
This workshop by guest presenter Tony Goodrow will demonstrate how a focus on more volunteer hours may actually devalue volunteers and how to use a Return-on-Investment (ROI) model as a more meaningful indicator of volunteer program success. In three hours, Tony will help you work with boards and upper management to define priorities of volunteer engagement, calculate return on investment of volunteer engagement and monitor the performance of volunteer engagement for internal process improvements.

Volunteer Talk: Time Poverty and the Glorification of Busy
Free for subscribers of Volunteer Toronto
Wednesday, January 28, 9:30am-11:00am
“Can you help me with this? Can you start a new project? Can you train a new volunteer? Can you meet with me for an hour?”
When we’re asked these questions in our sector, the most common response is often “I don’t have time” or “I’m too busy.” In recent years, the concept of “time poverty" has gone beyond the initial confines of academics into the realm of non-profit workers. Have too much to do and not enough time? Can’t invest any time to train volunteers on a new project or task? Simply finding yourself worrying that there aren’t enough hours in the day? You may be time-poor yourself.
In this Volunteer Talk, we’ll discuss the concept of time poverty and discuss best practices and strategies to de-glorify “busy” and take back our work lives! Utilizing volunteers well, and ensuring they don’t suffer from time poverty themselves, will ensure successful work for you and your organization.
