Volunteers of Toronto - Kelly Bennett

KELLY BENNETT
Volunteer at EGALEYouth Outreach

“I volunteer to help my community;
to help my peers and continue my
work and education as an activist and advocate. Truthfully, and it might not be the most altruistic, volunteering is my ‘happy place.’ If I’ve had a bad day at work going to the centre and making some sandwiches and hanging out with
some folks, helping with homework?
It makes me pretty happy.”

International Day Against Homophobia

Celebrated in more than 130 countries around the world, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia unites millions of people every year on May 17th in support of the recognition of human rights for all, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Wondering how you can make a difference locally? Here are a few ideas!

1. Show Your Support!

Wear purple on May 17th and speak to your friends and family about IDAHOT and why it’s so important. You can read more about the movement and about Canada’s timeline of gay rights. Start discussions and share insights to build a better more understanding community.

2. Volunteer!

Volunteer for the largest independent LGBTQ+ archives in the world! The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives are based right here in Toronto and are currently looking for Community Developers and Archivists

3. Experience For Yourself!

Spend a night experiencing homelessness like 6,000 LGBTQ youth in Canada do through Egale’s OUTatNIGHT fundraising and awareness campaign
