Moez Bawania
Volunteer with Youth Without Shelter

"My passion for volunteering and working with youth emanates from my childhood, when, having immigrated with my parents and brother to Canada in 1989, I observed first-hand the challenges my friends and classmates faced, including domestic abuse, addiction, poverty and bullying. I was lucky enough to make it through with a strong support network so I have a keen awareness of the importance of a safe, caring and empowering environment where one feels supported and encouraged to take positive steps in life."

Legacy Awards Banner

Do you know someone who is an amazing volunteer?

We’re searching the city for exceptional volunteers to recognize with a Volunteer Toronto Legacy Award during National Volunteer Week this April. We know there are lots of outstanding volunteers in Toronto who work tirelessly to improve their communities and the lives of people around them and we want to recognize them for their efforts and hard work. Whether they are unique because they made a big impact in a short space of time, or because they volunteered for over 20 years, or because they volunteered whilst overcoming personal challenges, we’d like to hear their story.

If you know someone worthy of an award, nominate them today!

We’re accepting nominations until 5 pm on Thursday February 4th. Be sure to read the guidelines before you complete a nomination form!

Although this reality is bleak and discouraging, you aren’t fated to be part of this group!

Check out our blog post
to help you overcome some of the common barriers that people face when doing volunteer work: lack of time and lack of money.
