Ben Scott
Volunteer with Literature for Life

“…Over the years I've learned more about what I truly care about. I’ve asked myself: What am I passionate about? Where do I want to invest my time? How am I going to help? Once you answer these questions, it's not just about volunteering; you learn a little bit more about yourself."

As we hear the news about tragedies happening around the world, our hearts are saddened, but we are humbled to hear stories of hope and generosity in those very places as volunteers rally to support people in Paris and around the globe. The United Nations celebrates volunteers worldwide on December 5 with International Volunteer Day. On December 5, we are reminded that volunteers’ actions count. To learn more about stories of people volunteering around the world visit

If you are interested in volunteering in Toronto with organizations that have a global mission, check out these great opportunities:

Organizations We Love

Repair Café Toronto supports the repair movement started by Repair Café Foundation in Amsterdam. We aim to reduce needless waste and counter our society’s throwaway mindset. Since our May 2013 launch, we have provided more than 29 repair workshops where volunteer fixers help visitors fix their household items for free.

  • Volunteer Fixer: If you enjoy repairing things and helping others learn how, we would like to invite you to join us. We welcome fixers with various repair skills for household items including computers, electronics, small appliances, small furniture, toys, clothes, jewellery and books, among others.
