Volunteering is something many people do to help their community. In fact, an estimated 1.1 million people in Toronto volunteer each year! With so many amazing people helping to make this city a better place, Volunteer Toronto wants to publicly thank 25 individuals who go above and beyond to give back to the city they love.

During National Volunteer Week, the selected winners will be invited to a special ceremony where they will be presented with a Legacy Award in recognition and gratitude for their time and hard work.

If you know someone worthy of an award, nominate them today!

Nominations will close at 5pm on Sunday, March 8th. We won’t be accepting self nominations, but if you’d like to be considered for an award, simply ask someone to nominate you.

Have a great long weekend!

Volunteer Tip

Be honest with the non-profit about your motivations

While many people volunteer to contribute to their community, it’s quite common to also have personal goals or motivations for volunteering.

Whether you want to learn a new skill, make friends or simply build your resume, volunteering can give you the opportunity to do so, but you should be upfront with the non-profit from the start. If a volunteer manager is aware of what you hope to get out of volunteering, they can do their best to ensure that your role and volunteer experience is meaningful and useful for you.

Don’t feel ashamed about wanting to get something in return! It’s quite common, and may well lead to opportunities that would otherwise not be offered.

Funding is
always a hot topic for non-profit organizations. But groups that have no paid members of staff and may or may not be registered as a non-profit or a charity, often face massive barriers when it comes to raising the necessary funds to further their cause. So what options are there for raising money and what does one need to do to be successful?

Trailblazer Series is a set of leadership talks for people who manage volunteer-run non-profit organizations and groups in Toronto.

Volunteer Toronto is a charitable organization whose work strives to create a strong, inclusive, caring and committed community of people who willingly give of their time and energy toward building a healthy city. Volunteer Toronto’s programs and services support non-profits, charities and grassroots groups across the city in developing sustainable volunteer programs.
