Are you a high school student looking to make a difference in Scarborough? Have you moved to Canada in the last 5 years? Become a Youth Innovator today to start making change happen!

As a Youth Innovator you’ll learn how to create and run events that directly impact your community. Your training and weekly meetings with a mentor will give you the skills and tools to develop your own volunteer initiative. We’re looking for motivated, creative high school students who are new to Canada and passionate about volunteering. Expect to become a stronger leader who can make a difference.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Develop and deliver a 3 hour-long volunteer initiative in the Scarborough community before December 15th, 2018

·         Recruit and organize 40 other high school students as volunteers

·         Meet and communicate with your mentor for a minimum of 30 minutes per week for the duration of the project

 

Training

·         WHEN: 6 weekdays in August (10:00am-3:00pm) either:

o   Cycle 1: August 7th-9th and 14th-16th or;

o   Cycle 2: August 21st-23rd and 28th-30th

·         WHERE: Scarborough, ON

o   TTC tokens and food will be provided

 

Skills And Experience Required (Qualifications)

·         A medium level of English fluency

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·         Strong time management and organization skills

·         Be motivated, creative and positive

·         Some computer skills required for planning the volunteer initiative

·         Previous volunteer experience an asset

 

 

Additional Information 

The Youth Innovators Project is funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Innovation. For the purpose of promoting newcomer youth volunteering in the Scarborough community the program is intended for newcomer youth volunteers.

 

Minimum age: 14

Minimum hours: 1 hour per week

Task requirements: carrying and lifting; walking and standing; hearing; verbal communication; visual; reading and writing

Applicants will be contacted by June 25th to schedule a phone interview.  For those who are successful, a second round group interview will take place in Scarborough on July 22nd. The Youth Innovators Project will kick off with 6 days of mandatory orientation and training in August that will cover topics like event management, grass roots volunteering, leadership and more.
