Toronto, ON—Volunteer Toronto is pleased to announce it has received funding from the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration for $297,385. This grant will fund the development of training resources that will increase the volunteer capacity of organizations across five unique non-profit sub-sectors in Ontario.

“The passion and hard work of volunteers powers the non-profit sector,” explains Sammy Feilchenfeld, training specialist at Volunteer Toronto, “Although a great deal of general volunteer management training and resources exist, the needs of non-profits can vary greatly by sub-sector, and many sub-sectors still lack specialized training that can help them engage volunteers effectively.”

Taking an evidence-based approach, the project will build from an initial needs assessment that will determine which sub-sectors are most lacking in specialized training and what gaps exist in currently available resources. The project will then create a series of 30 training modules across 10 online and in-person courses in both English and French as well as individualized training handbooks targeted to each of the chosen sub-sectors.

Training will be delivered online and in-person across the province in partnership with local volunteer centres at no cost. A facilitation guide and online training session will also be made available without cost to ensure that individual volunteer centres can continue delivering workshops moving forward.

Kasandra James, formerly subscriptions coordinator for Volunteer Toronto, will be project coordinator. We are currently seeking proposals for three consultant positions in relation to the project.
