What’s the role of volunteerism in our society? Are too many volunteers being turned away because of screening? On December 16, 2019, Volunteer Toronto’s Executive Director (a), Joanne McKiernan, joined Steve Paikin on TVO’s The Agenda for a panel discussion on the state of volunteering in Canada.

Watch the full segment below:

Volunteering is imperative in Toronto, Ontario and Canada. Our Executive Director says it best:

"Imagine what would change [if there were no volunteers]. Community sport would evaporate, arts and culture, community theatres, the institutions we love wouldn’t exist.  What would happen in hospitals? They could still run, but how? And what colour would be between the walls in patient support? Education, supports in schools—it would really be a darkened reality or a darkened picture of community.”

                                                    — Joanne McKiernan, Executive Director
