Volunteer Toronto celebrates the city's most giving volunteers

25 Torontonians to be recognized with Legacy Awards

TORONTO, April 11, 2016 – In celebration of National Volunteer Week, an important occasion for Canadian non-profits to recognize and thank their volunteers, Volunteer Toronto is presenting 25 Torontonians with a Legacy Award. The annual awards ceremony is taking place on Monday April 11, 2016, and will recognize this year’s recipients for their passion and the time they have given to make Toronto a better city.

“The Legacy Awards recognize the achievements of volunteers whose commitment and dedication reflect the city’s vision of a city that moves and a city that cares,” says Mayor John Tory. “Congratulations and thank you for your commitment and dedication to our city – it’s your leadership that makes Toronto an outstanding and successful place in which to live, work and play.”

“What makes these awards so special is that the recipients were nominated by their charitable organizations and volunteer colleagues,” says David Allen, Executive Director, Volunteer Toronto. “It’s terrific to see such a caring community of fellow Torontonians who are truly making a positive difference for everyone in our city.”

Hosted by Ingrid Schumacher of CHUM FM, the event will bring together the award recipients, charitable organizations, and other special guests to celebrate their incredible community service. Media is invited to attend.
