Every year we connect with thousands of Torontonians at our info sessions and community events around the city—from Pride to neighbourhood festivals to job fairs. We educate about the many benefits of volunteering and provide guidance about the best ways to get started.

Invite Volunteer Toronto to your Fair or Expo

Looking for exhibitors at your festival or volunteer/career fair? We attend dozens of fairs and expos each year. Our energetic and knowledgeable Community Engagement team are ready to field questions and introduce attendees to the benefits of volunteering, walking them through accessing our programs and services—including our newsletter and search engine.

Request an Information Session

Free of charge for both attendees and hosts, our information sessions are designed to guide participants through the first steps of their volunteer journey. Currently, our volunteer ambassador program offers two different 1.5 hour sessions:

Volunteering as a Newcomer

Canadian work experience, improved language skills, and community involvement are just a few of the benefits that volunteering offers newcomers. This session will cover:

  • The benefits of volunteering
  • How volunteering is integral to Canadian culture
  • The types of volunteer roles available and the commitments they require
  • The best ways to practice English and meet new people while volunteering
  • How to use Volunteer Toronto's online search portal
  • How to apply for volunteer roles and what to expect during screening
  • How to use and develop skills by volunteering
  • How to network and gain Canadian references through volunteering

Volunteering as a Job-Seeker

Job hunting can be challenging in today's market and applicants need every edge they can get. Volunteering is a great way to gain crucial experience and build a network while making new friends and having some fun. This session will cover:

  • The benefits of volunteering
  • The types of volunteer roles available and the commitments they require
  • How to use Volunteer Toronto's online search portal
  • How to write a great cover letter and resume for a volunteer role
  • Preparing to interview for a volunteer role
  • Applying what you've learned during the volunteer application and screening process to the job search
  • Developing transferable skills while volunteering
  • How to network and gain references by volunteering
  • How to highlight volunteering on your resume

Depending on staff availability, we may be able to deliver presentations tailored to additional audiences, such as youth or seniors.
