Learn about strategic planning as a useful tool for volunteer managers to improve, develop and grow their volunteer programs while supporting the capacity, mission and vision of their organizations. You'll learn about strategic planning tools, working with colleagues, implementing and evaluating your plan with a focus on volunteer programs and their goals. This course includes an accompanying Workbook to help you plan your strategic process and make great changes in your volunteer program.

What is strategic planning? How is it useful for non-profits and volunteer programs? How do I make the right plan for my organization? Get started here.

Lesson 2 - Strategic Planning Tools
Learn about the three most common tools for strategic planning in non-profits - Theory of Change, Balanced Scorecard and SWOT Analysis - and get started on your own!

Lesson 3 - Building a Plan Across the Organization
How can you bring colleagues and other departments into your strategic planning process? By looking at common departments in non-profits, this lesson explores the use cases for working with others in your plan.

Lesson 4 - Implementing the Plan
Once your plan is ready, learn about putting it into action and choosing the right timelines, work plans and scenarios for making changes.

Lesson 5 - Evaluating the Strategic Plan
The process doesn't end when implementation is over - discover the benefits of ongoing evaluation before, during and after the strategic plan.
