Police Checks and the Ontario Human Rights Code
Registration fee: $50 (Free for Paid Subscribers)

Requesting police checks from volunteers may have been a necessary requirement in the past, but are you aware of the human rights implications? In addition, how has the police check request process changed for volunteers with the new online platform? This session will explore the Ontario Human Rights Code, your organizational obligations when requesting police checks (including the Bona Fide Occupational Requirement) and specifically requesting Vulnerable Sector Checks. We'll also look at the new online processes in place by Toronto Police Service to ensure everything goes smoothly, and explore the Broad Record Check introduced in 2025.

You'll leave this 90-minute webinar with:

  • An understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and its role in requesting police checks
  • A firm interpretation of the Bona Fide Occupational Requirement
  • Tips and techniques for ensuring smooth police check request processes (and how to use the new platform)
  • Tools for understanding police checks when you receive them
