Becoming a Better Facilitator

Facilitation is a key skill for volunteer engagement professionals. Whether you're training volunteers during onboarding, teaching colleagues and staff about effective volunteer support, or passing on your knowledge to other volunteer managers, it's important to develop and deliver learning in an an engaging way. Join this full-day, highly interactive workshop to better understand learning and learners, develop your speaking skills, and prepare for a range of learning audiences. We'll go hands-on into designing interactive learning experiences, using a learner-and-facilitator feedback loop, and maximizing technology for facilitation. Plus, you'll get a chance to practice facilitation with live feedback on a topic in one of the categories below. Don't miss this unique opportunity to level up your facilitation skills in a single day!

Participants will choose one of the six practice categories below, and come prepared to workshop and deliver a micro-presentation:

  1. Training volunteers on boundaires
  2. Training volunteers on talking to clients
  3. Training staff on providing support to volunteers
  4. Training staff on incident reporting and/or volunteer tracking
  5. Training other volunteer managers on your retention approach
  6. Training other volunteer managers about internal advocacy

Lunch, a detailed workbook (both digital and physical) and refreshments throughout the day are included.

You'll leave this full-day workshop with:

  • A detailed understanding of how learning happens and how to encourage a growth mindset
  • Tips to encourage active learning in any workshop or session
  • Tools to enhance speaking skills and development interactive approaches that align with any topic
  • Opportunities to prepare, deliver and get feedback on audience-specific training
  • Templates and drafts of learning objectives and feedback models
  • Suggestions and tips for using technology and other tools for effective learning

Tuesday, March 3, 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | In-Person at Crohn's and Colitis Canada, 439 University Avenue, Suite 2110 (21st floor), Toronto, Ontario (at St. Patrick Subway Station). Crohn's and Colitis Canada's National Office is located at 439 University Avenue, Suite 2110 (21st floor), at the intersection of Dundas Street West and University Avenue in downtown Toronto. You can reach this location via subway at St. Patrick Subway Station, or via the Dundas (505) streetcar. The Boardroom is located within the Crohn's and Colitis Canada office on the 21st floor, our team will greet you outside the elevator to help you find your way.

Registration & Cancellation Policy
Registrations are accepted at the discretion of Volunteer Toronto. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received within 48 hours of an event. Registration can be transferred to another member of your organization. Written notice must be received more than 48 hours prior to the event date in order to receive a refund. Please send your written cancellation to Sammy Feilchenfeld at sfeilchenfeld@volunteertoronto.ca. Registered participants who fail to attend an event will be invoiced for the full fee, due 30 days from the date of the invoice.
