More volunteers are competing for fewer volunteer roles—a recent data comparison tells us that from April-June 2020, Volunteer Toronto’s portal has seen a 25% increase in users and a 33% increase in web sessions year-to-year.
We have also observed a nearly 70% drop in volunteer roles available during April-June 2020 as non-profits responded to new COVID-19 emergency precautions, ceased operations, paused active recruitment, and adapted programs to meet urgent needs.
Our Remote Volunteer Advisors have experienced an uptick in volunteer seekers looking for advice. From April-June 2020, appointments were steadily booked two weeks in advance, totalling 1,250 one-on-one touch-points with members of the public looking to support COVID-19 recovery efforts during this time period.
And most notably, nearly 10,000 individuals have signed up to our COVID-19 Response Team, which has now shifted to recovery efforts, triggered with each new phase of re-opening. The average click rate for the Team Alerts sits at 22%, with a total of more than 14,000 clicks to in need roles from April-June 2020. Volunteer Toronto is proud to announce we will be co-authoring an academic paper, alongside one of our dedicated research volunteers, Micheal Lebenbaum, PhD (University of Toronto), further analyzing the impact of COVID-19 on our volunteer role portal. More in depth insights will be shared with our Annual Report release in September 2020.
