Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. We are pleased to have such a diverse and dedicated group of individuals all working to ensure volunteers and the causes that need them can come together harmoniously.


Paddy Bowen

Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the leadership of the organization including advancing the strategic plan, overseeing the finance and operations, and increasing the organization’s public profile.

Joanne McKiernan

Associate Executive Director

Our Associate Executive Director oversees all of Volunteer Toronto's services for organizations and our public outreach and support. Joanne ensures our services are effectively helping non-profits build capacity through volunteer involvement, and that barriers to volunteering are broken down for those looking to get started.

Cara Eaton

Director, Marketing & Communications

Cara is the creative voice behind Volunteer Toronto's external communications. She manages our website and social media channels as well as works with all departments to develop key collateral and messaging. Her mission is to reach the furthest corners of the city to let people know about who we are and what we do.

Iona Frost

Director, Volunteer Engagement

Iona leads an enthusiastic team dedicated to delivering programs that connect Torontonians with meaningful volunteer opportunities. She develops strategic and dynamic partnerships within the community to ensure these services are engaging, practical, and relevant in a shifting market.

Niranjala Mariathas

operations manager

Nira is responsible for the day-to-day operations and human resources management ensuring the efficient functioning of the office and administrative systems. She is the glue that holds Volunteer Toronto together.

Kasandra James

PRoject coordinator, training services
Kasandra plans, leads, and delivers our province-wide training for specialized non-profit sub-sectors. She works with volunteer centres and community hubs across Ontario to coordinate free workshops that bring volunteer managers up to speed with leading practices in the sector.

David Alton

coordinator, Non-Profits
David, our Non-Profit Coordinator, is the first point of contact for non-profits looking for support. He writes our Sector Space newsletter and makes sure our subscriptions package continues to help non-profit organizations build capacity through volunteer involvement.

Olivia Sonnenberg

coordiNATOR, Volunteer Engagement

Olivia supports Volunteer Toronto’s public engagement activities, including community information sessions and expos. As the lead on all signature events, she is the main point of contact for our Legacy Awards, a celebration of volunteerism during National Volunteer Week, and the Youth Expo, the city's largest annual volunteer fair.

Vanessa Wallace

Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement

Vanessa supports the development of Volunteer Toronto’s Volunteer Advisor Program, focused on removing barriers to finding meaningful volunteering opportunities. With an extensive background working with youth, she coordinates all requests from Toronto high schools and delivers dynamic presentations to encourage to students get the most out of their 40 volunteer hours.
