You've got questions. We've got Answers!
We get a lot of questions about volunteering in Toronto, so we've decided to compile the most commonly asked ones on this page. We are a registered non-profit organization and our mission is to create the best possible volunteer experience by providing non-profits and charities across Toronto with the platform to post their volunteer positions and the search engine for potential volunteers to access opportunities. We also provide training and resources to leaders of volunteers to enable them to create supportive and engaging volunteer programs. Reflect: Think about why you want to volunteer. Is it to learn new skills, offer the skills you already have, gain work experience or
give back to a cause? More importantly, think about the time you can/want to commit to volunteering. Generally, 13-14 years old. However, some positions can accommodate younger children as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Age requirements will vary with the type of volunteer
position and organization.
You can sign up for our "Volunteer Times" here, and our Community Response Team Alert here. When you sign up you will automatically start receiving our online newsletter to your mailbox monthly. sign upSome organizations will require you to complete and submit an online or in-person application. Others may ask you to send a resume, depending on the position being advertised. Organizations may request a formal interview, in other cases it could be informal or just an orientation session. Each volunteer position or role will have specific skill requirements. These skills are often listed on the volunteer position description. Organizations will train their new volunteers for the specific duties or roles they will be carrying out. Volunteering does not guarantee you a job with the organization you are volunteering for. However, there could be opportunities which may open up through the networks and contacts you establish through your volunteering experience. Time commitment varies depending on the type of volunteer activity. This ranges from one day events (special events), short term (less than 3 months) and long term (more than 3 months) commitments. Depending on your availability, you can choose to sign-up for a special event or something on a consistent and on-going basis. Most organizations reimburse their volunteers for transportation costs, e.g. TTC tokens. Some organizations may cover other transport expenses, e.g. mileage/gas. They will inform you
of which expenses they cover.
